  • The mother of the founder of Khadarlis (a US based NGO) sits on her couch in her second floor apartment above shops and busy streets of Freetown. She's calm, peaceful. She's glad I'm there to help, she tells me. I see her twice, while I'm in Sierra Leone, only for a few minutes each time. Its a nice visit, one I hope to make again.

  • There is little in the way to diagnose rabies in dogs and humans. Here is the old lab, demolished during the war. It has been replaced. Unfortunately, the new lab is not equipped properly, and few people are trained in the laboratory techniques necessary to diagnose rabies. Electricity and refrigeration are lacking.

  • Everyone, young and old, enjoyed the World Rabies Day festivities. This woman and young girl dance and walk along the side of the road as the parade marches on, music blaring. What a wonderful way to learn and have fun at the same time.

  • Dexter will have one run Friday night, another Saturday night, and one Sunday afternoon. In break-aways roping, the rider ropes the calf at a run, but then the rope breaks aways from the saddle and the calf runs free. Dexter is 15 years old, at the age where this is the last time he can compete in this event. Next year, he'll move up to calf-roping, where he'll have to quickly dismount after roping the calf and run out to tie it up. Dexter has a good throw here.
